Ingredients

Base
1 cup 100% wholewheat flour
cup rolled oats
125g butter
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon golden syrup

Topping
1 cup currants
cup sultanas
1 tablespoon cornflour
teaspoon mixed spice
grated rind and juice of 1 lemon
cup water

Method

Base
Mix dry ingredients together, add melted butter and golden syrup. Mix well and press into greased flat tin.

Topping
Combine all ingredients, stir over moderate heat until thickens. Cool, then spread over base mixture.

Bake in moderate oven for 30 minutes. Cut while still warm.
